Hyderabad: Man sets himself ablaze, succumbs

Hyderabad: Depressed over separating from his wife, a man attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze on the railway tracks at Lingampally railway station on Sunday. The victim, Siva Yadav, 29, was rescued by the locals and admitted to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Government Railway Police, at about 9.40 pm on Sunday, one Allakanda Shivashanker, 29, set himself ablaze using petrol near the railway tracks at Lingampally railway station. His father Yadagiri and the locals noticed him and rushed to rescue him. He was rushed to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for treatment.
GRP sub-inspector Ahmed Pasha said that Shivashanker had married Monika and the couple had two children. He used to sell vegetables while Monika looked after the kids. For the last one year, Monika has been living with her parents at Kurnool and was not coming back due to the petty issues between them.
“Unable to tolerate the separation, Shivashanker attempted suicide. He suffered 90 per cent burns and succumbed. A case of suspicious death has been registered for the probe,” said SI Pasha. In another case, an unidentified person set himself ablaze using alcohol at Lal Darwaza under Shah Ali Banda police station limits.  He was rescued by traffic personnel and referred to OGH.

Pulwama Terror Attack: Karnataka Teacher Arrested Over pro-Pakistan Post, Local Set Her House Ablaze

Belagavi (Karnataka): Locals set fire to a teacher’s house in Kadabi Shivapur village in Belagavi after she was arrested for allegedly posting an objectionable post on social media. (Also read: ‘Do Not Circulate Fake Photos of Martyr’s Body Parts to Invoke Hatred,’ CRPF Cautions People)
A case was registered against the woman for writing a pro-Pakistan post on Facebook. Police said, “She has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Locals tried to set her house ablaze.”
“We registered a complaint under sections 121 A, 153 and 153 A of IPC. She was arrested and sent to judicial custody. Some villagers tried to set her house on fire but the situation was brought under control.”
Belagavi SP said, “They tried to set fire to the house of the accused more than three hours after she was arrested. She was not taken to custody after they tried to set the house on fire; she had been taken into custody much earlier.”
The youths from the village gathered in front of her house and set it on fire. A portion of the house, including the roof, was damaged.
Meanwhile, some reports said the teacher had put up an objectionable status on WhatsApp. The issue escalated when young men of the village started pelting stones at her residence. The police had meanwhile arrested the woman and taken her to Yeragatti sub-station.
However, angry youths went on to set her house afire.
Members of the Federation of Youth Organizations also reportedly demanded a rigorous action against the woman. Reports said hundreds of people who arrived at the Sangai Rayanna circle later set tires afire and shouted slogans against Pakistan.
The protest continued till MLA Ananda Mamani intervened. While Mamani also sought action against the errant teacher, he appealed for peace and withdrawal of protest. Traffic was disrupted for hours due to the protest.

30 left homeless as arsonists set ablaze 15 huts

Unknown people have set ablaze 15 grass thatched huts in Gulu Municipality in what local leaders said is an organised crime.The incident, which occurred yesterday morning in Aywee Sub-ward in Pece Division, left about 30 people homeless and destroyed household property worth millions of shillings. Ms Lily Aryemo, 58, one of the affected residents, said she was woken up around 2am by heat after fire had razed half of the hut she was sleeping in with her five-year-old grandson.
Ms Aryemo said and her grandson were lucky to escape from the burning hut but lost all household property, including money. “I came out without anything, I was just lucky that the fire had not engulfed the whole hut because I could have been burnt to death with my grandson. I have lost Shs200,000 I had kept for my grandson’s school fees to start nursery today [yesterday],” Ms Aryemo said.She said she also lost a sack of sorghum, clothes, chairs and beds in the fire.
Ms Aryemo suspects the fire was deliberately started by thugs revenging arrest by local leaders.Another affected resident, Ms Janet Auma, 27, a mother of three, lost her hut with all her household property in the inferno.“The fire was started on the side of the hut where my son was sleeping. I was woken up by a feeling of intense heat only to find the hut was on fire. I quickly carried my son and threw him outside before following him,” Ms Auma narrated.
“I want leaders and the police to investigate the matter and arrest those behind this attack. This has left many of us who survived the fire living in fear of even being attacked because we do not know whether or not their intention was to burn to death,”
The area chairperson, Mr Jackson Ojok, said they will form a vigilante group to work with the police in ensuring the arsonists are apprehended.Mr Ojok said the attack is a security threat in his area since it is the second in two months. “We shall heighten the security watch in the neighbourhood to ensure safety of the locals and their properties,” he said.Mr Kelly Komakech, the division chairperson, said the arsonist are suspected to be former street boys now adults who went on rampage to intimidate locals.
