There's a quintessential mid-century modern for sale in the Kentfield area of Marin County belonging to Gavin Newsom, former mayor of San Francisco and now governor of California, and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a documentary filmmaker. Since they'll be spending a lot more time in the state capital of Sacramento this 5-bed, 6-bath isn't what they need anymore. According to property records they purchased the property in 2011 for $2.25 million and placed it on the market at the end of January for $5.995 million. The home dates to 1950 from Bay Area architect Worley K. Wong who captured the motif of that time with a low frame angular design.
With 4,014 square feet of living space, the wide open rooms and large sliding glass doors let all that California sun in.

The L-shaped house is positioned on the 1.3 acre lot in such a way that it is secluded from the street so allows for a full view out to the pool (above) and the backyard (below). The home recently underwent a major overhaul thanks to designer Julie Dowling (whose background includes two stints working for architect Michael Graves and as a senior store designer for Banana Republic).

Views of San Francisco Bay and Mt. Tamalpais are easy to take in from the second floor deck accessed via the bedrooms.

The kitchen is a sleek affair with an easy route to the outdoor pool area so serving up a crowd is easy enough.

The home office has this sophisticated blue thing going on but kept the dark-stained hardwood floors found elsewhere on the main floor of the home.

A master bedroom makes up for its small size with its treehouse feel and all those windows.

And then there's the colorful approach to one's sleeping environs.

Of the six bathrooms in the house, four full/two half, one of them comes with this sauna.

This beautiful off-grid adobe dome straight out of Star Wars is actually in the West Texas desert
The man who designed a remote adobe hut in the West Texas desert died last month, just shy of 94 years old. But his legacy lives on.
About 10 years ago, designer Don Bryant helped performing songwriter Trevor Reichman create a space that looks like it came straight out of the Star Wars universe.
Now, Reichman is dedicating the property to him and sharing breathtaking photos of the space he purchased outside of Big Bend National Park.
"[Bryant] gave me one of the dome frames that he designed and taught me how to stucco..." said Reichman. "I built it out from there, with help from friends along the way, and finished it out with adobe and lime plaster."
The hut -- or "Dome," as Reichman refers to it --  now rents for about $98 per night on AirBnB. It's located Terlingua Ranch, about a 25-minute drive from the entrance of Big Bend National Park.
Aside from stunning views, it provides basic amenities like parking, wifi, a kitchen, kitchen supplies, and a composting toilet.
It boasts an "off-grid" experience, and Reichman's photos of starry backgrounds and vivid sunsets paint an otherworldly picture of the surrounding environment. He said he understands the comparisons to Star Wars.
"It wasn't intentional for it to look like Luke Skywalker's home, but so many guests point it out," he said. "I think quite a few Star Wars fanatics stay at the Dome because of its resemblance."
The property has brief openings available in March and April. The hut is mostly open for a summer getaway, but perhaps for a reason.
While the space provides a good buffer for the elements, it doesn't have air conditioning. It offers a fan and perimeter windows to welcome a breeze. If the 10-day forecast proves to be too much, Reichman offers cancellation options during off-peak periods.
"Many say that summer is their favorite time of the year out here," according to the home's AirBnB profile. "But it all depends on one's heat tolerance."
