Manchester City owners add seventh club to portfolio after acquiring Chinese third-tier Sichuan Jiuniu

The owners of Manchester City have further extended their influence in world football by jointly purchasing their first club in China.
Sichuan Jiuniu, who play in the third tier of Chinese football, will now come under the umbrella of a City Football Group portfolio that also includes New York FC, Melbourne City FC, Yokohama F Marinos in Japan, Club Atletico Torque in Uruguay and La Liga side Girona FC.
The purchase was completed jointly with China Sports Capital and UBTECH, an artificial intelligence and humanoid robotic company who have been a commercial party of Manchester City since 2016.
Jiunui are based in the Sichuan Province in South West China and play at the 27,000-seater Chengdu Longquanyi Football Stadium.
City Football Group, which is majority owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group, said that the deal had been motivated by their belief in Chinese’s football’s long-term strength and a desire to develop emerging players from that region. Several Premier League owners have been actively looking at expanding their investments to clubs abroad, although largely in Europe, especially in light of the prospect of a no-deal Brexit and what that could mean for transfer regulation.

Jets Mailbag: How does Gang Green really feel about acquiring Le’Veon Bell or Antonio Brown?

Absolutely. Look no further than free agency last year when they backed up the Brink’s truck for cornerback Trumaine Johnson. The Jets have massive buyer’s remorse about Johnson’s five-year, $72.5 million deal, according to sources. (For practical purposes, it’s a three-year, $48 million deal).
