Yosemite's 'firefall' returns as visitors capture amazing photos

A natural phenomenon has returned to Yosemite National Park.Under the right weather conditions, the sun hits the Horsetail Falls at an angle, creating a glow that appears like fire cascading down the cliffs, park ranger Jamie Richards said. The phenomenon is called “firefall,” which Richards said is reminiscent of a former tradition from a Yosemite resort, Half Dome Village -- formerly known as Curry Village. The tradition started in 1872 where embers were pushed over the edge of Glacier Point, creating a “waterfall of fire.”While the pushing of embers is no longer carried out, visitors still gather every year on Northside Drive to see how the sun turns the water orange, creating the image of falling fire.Richards said from mid- to late-February is when the firefall phenomenon is more likely to be seen -- but it is not guaranteed. For there to be a firefall, conditions require there to be enough water to create a flowing fall, which can be affected by the snowpack, Richards said. The sky must also be clear enough for the sun to hit the Horsetail Falls.Richards said this year is unique because there is a lot of snow and ice, reducing the amount of water falling.Visitors who want to see the glow should be in place by sunset. Richards said portions of the right-hand lane of Northside Drive is converted into a walkway for this event. It’s about a mile-long hike to the viewing area depending on how close you park.

A natural phenomenon has returned to Yosemite National Park.
Under the right weather conditions, the sun hits the Horsetail Falls at an angle, creating a glow that appears like fire cascading down the cliffs, park ranger Jamie Richards said.

Chrissy Teigen Low-Key Had Dinner With President Obama And Ayesha Curry And It Looked Amazing

More
Chrissy Teigen posts just about everything in her life: her hot husband John Legend and their kids Luna and Miles (a.k.a. John's mini-me). Her interest in food, and desire for more food. Her glamorous red carpet events, and all the times they were REALLY hungover in the midst of said events. But it turns out Chrissy and John were at a very special President's Day dinner on Monday, and the notoriously transparent model-actress-author was very quiet about the guest that attended-President Barack Obama.
On her Instagram Stories and on Twitter, Chrissy DID post that she was having dinner planned by Ayesha Curry and starring Chef Michael Mina at restaurant International Smoke, as well as closeups of the food (which have since expired from her Stories, darn) and details about the menu: apparently "Cornbread with Thai curry, baked oysters ahhhhh." But Page Six reports that the dinner was connected to a charitable cause. John, Steph, and President Obama all took part in a convention the next day for Obama's initiative My Brother's Keeper, so the dinner was probably to get some time with the speakers (and their wives) ahead of time.
My Brother's Keeper has been active for five years. President Obama's Instagram post about the event read, "Today, as part of the @ObamaFoundation, the @MBK_Alliance consists of nearly 250 communities working to break down barriers that too often leave boys and young men of color at a disadvantage. And tomorrow in Oakland, I’ll join the My Brother’s Keeper community to mark the progress we’ve made and chart the course ahead at a celebration we’re calling MBK Rising!"
Obviously, the guests at the dinner were thrilled to be there. Michael Mina posted a picture on Instagram with some of the guests (sans Chrissy and John), saying, "Thank you for the highest honor!"
Here's that photo with Michael Mina, Obama, and the Currys:
And here's the Boomerang video of Chrissy and Michael Mina, with Chrissy's gorgeous red maxi dress on full display:
Chrissy, tell me more! (Actually, it's probably classier that she's not discussing it, so good work, Chrissy.)

‘I Feel Amazing’: Teen Released From Hospital Month After Fiery NH Crash

DUBLIN, N.H. (CBS) – A New Hampshire teenager who was behind the wheel in an explosive crash caught on another driver’s dashboard camera is home after a month in a Boston hospital.
Sam Lachance says all he can remember is the last 12 days he’s spent at Spaulding Rehab recovering. The 18-year-old is already embracing his second chance at life.
“I feel amazing,” Lachance said. “I am so glad to be home.”
He flashes a big smile sitting in between his mom and dad. It’s hard to tell the 18-year-old is fresh out of the hospital.
“To me I feel like basically I’m going to make it to a hundred percent,” Sam says.
The fiery crash left him with burns on his face and hands, a fractured foot and a collapsed lung. Doctors also removed his spleen.
He says he has “zero memory” of the day of the crash.

The day was January 22nd. Sam was heading back to college when his Jeep crossed the center lane of Route 101 in Dublin, New Hampshire. It hit a tractor-trailer causing its fuel tank to explode.
Dashcam video of the violent crash is helping Sam make sense of it all. “Seeing that video was, it was just basically telling me what happened and how I got all my injuries,” he says.

Several good Samaritans pulled him from those flames. “Thank you, very much, you saved my life,” Sam said. “I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for your guys.”
His mom and dad are both thankful their son is back under their roof.
“That whole day is still so fresh,” Jessica Lachance said. “I don’t think I’ll ever forget that day and that phone call so to have him here now with me is just incredible.”
“I’m basically getting a second chance at life here,” Sam said.
Sam says as soon as he’s fully recovered he’s heading black to Keene State where he’s studying to be a graphic designer.
