Fan Poll: Top 5 Greatest Heavy-Metal Love Songs

3. Black Sabbath - "N.I.B."
Black Sabbath are for lovers. On their debut self-titled album, song "N.I.B." possesses the classic Sabbath elements that made them doom icons (ie. heavy-as-fuck riffs), as well as many elements causal fans might not expect. Most overtly, Geezer Butler plays some of the funkiest bass he's ever done, giving the song a true sense of groove. Ozzy Osbourne's lyrics can be taken in multiple ways, as a straight-up expression of love for another, or as story of the antichrist. Whether it's another person or Lucifer, few songs express love as well.

Listen to Avenged Sevenfold’s Cover of the Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’

Avenged Sevenfold's latest release is a cover of the Beach Boys 1966 classic "God Only Knows."
It's the latest in a series of single releases from the band, all meant to "evolve" their most recent full-length effort, 2016's The Stage. "God Only Knows" was preceded earlier this year by the Spanish-language track "Malaguena Salerosa" and covers of Mr. Bungle's "Retrovertigo" and Del Shannon's "Runaway."
As singer M. Shadows told Billboard earlier this year, the idea of an evolving album appeals to Avenged Sevenfold's fondness for "putting out music in a non-conventional way"; encouraged by the growing number of high-profile artists who've taken to releasing new projects through non-traditional avenues or without the usual amount of pre-release fanfare, they decided to add to The Stage after giving fans a chance to experience the original track listing for several months.
"You look at what Kendrick Lamar or Drake are doing, or any hip-hop or pop act. Their streaming numbers are through the roof," said Shadows. "And you look at rock, and they're just not there. But we want to get new stuff out to people. We don't have the answers to all the big questions in the music industry, but we do have control of keeping ourselves artistically satisfied, and this just seemed fun to us."
At the time of the Billboard interview, Shadows promised some unusual covers in store for fans, and the group has definitely delivered. "We always want to do covers, but we found it kind of boring to do covers of bands in our genre, and we were always asked to do those," he explained. "We said, 'What do we love?,' and everyone picked one song each and it came down to those are the songs we felt we wanted to cover."

Avenged Sevenfold Answer Backlash With New Version Of 'Mad Hatter' was a top 18 story of September 2018: After some Avenged Sevenfold fans complained about the mix of the band's brand new single "Mad Hatter", frontman M Shadows was quick to take to social media to offer an explanation along with a new mix of the track.
The track was recorded for the forthcoming Black Ops 4 game, which is set to be released next month. After its release last Monday, September 17th, some fans went online and expressed their displeasure about the sound of the track.
M Shadows shared the following on reddit over the weekend, Hey Guys and Gals - I hope you are all doing well. I just wanted to update you on a situation with "Mad Hatter." We saw some complaints about the mix and we totally agree with you! We were pushing the limits in a lot of different ways and once the compression of streaming services and radio got a hold of it the clarity become muddied. I heard it on the radio and was like "Oh Sh*t!" The good news is we live in a world were you can quickly fix your mistakes and we have done just that. On Monday all streaming services and radio will switch to this new version with more clarity but we wanted you to get it here first. Check out this link. We hope you enjoy and have a great weekend."
