Armie Hammer Denies ‘Batman’ Casting, Hasn’t Even Been Asked About the Role

Slow down, internet. A widespread rumor that Armie Hammer is the leading contender to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming Warner Bros. tentpole “The Batman” has been denied by the actor himself. Speaking to Yahoo Movies UK during the European press tour for “On the Basis of Sex,” Hammer was asked about the rumor.
“No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested,” Hammer said. “I don’t even know if they are done–they are still working on a script.”
The Hammer-as-Batman rumor went viral February 18 after a report titled “Armie Hammer Is In Final Talks To Be THE BATMAN” was published as an exclusive by Revenge of the Fans. The website reported it had “received word that Warner Bros. and Armie Hammer had entered advanced talks about him being the star” of Matt Reeves’ upcoming tentpole. The Batman casting has been one of the biggest question marks for the DCEU now that Ben Affleck has stepped down from playing the role after “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League.”

Despite the rumor being reported as fact by some other publications, Hammer said his casting is nowhere close to being official, especially as he’s not even been asked about his interest in the role. Perhaps one of the reasons the rumor went viral is because Hammer already has a history with the Caped Crusader. George Miller cast Hammer as Bruce Wayne/Batman in his “Justice League” movie, which tried and failed to get off the ground in 2007.
Following box office duds “The Lone Ranger” and “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” Hammer has mostly avoided studio tentpole fare in recent years. Matt Reeves is retooling the script for “The Batman,” and is reportedly eyeing a younger version of Bruce Wayne to lead the story. Warner Bros. will release “The Batman” in theaters June 21, 2021.

Update: Armie Hammer debunks the rumor that he'll suit up as The Batman

The Batman, Armie Hammer, Batman
Update: Welp, that didn’t last long, did it? It’s almost like I knew that the first thing I’d be doing today is writing a retraction for last night’s Armie Hammer rumor. This is why we ask out readers to proceed with caution when situations like this arise.
Here’s the new deal. After last night’s Bat-kerfuffle, The Hollywood Reporter’s Broys Kit and Justin Kroll from Variety (who are both quite reputable when it comes to legit scoops) did some lightweight digging, and confirmed that no, Armie Hammer is in fact not in final talks to play Bruce Wayne/Batman for Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero solo venture.
You can view both Kit and Kroll’s tweets debunking the rumor below:
Furthermore, if Kit and Kroll's words aren't giving you what you need to put this rumor to bed, here's a statement direct from Hammer himself, who spoke to Yahoo!UK about the possibility of him suiting up as the Dark Knight:
“No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they’re done – I think they’re still working on a script. I don’t think that they’re close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

Stop the presses, put away all of your wonderful toys, and prepare to potentially put a smile on your face. According to an exclusive report via Revenge of the Fans, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME and THE SOCIAL NETWORK star Armie Hammer is in final talks to play the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman for director Matt Reeves' Dark Knight solo feature, THE BATMAN.
Now, before you start cranking Prince's "Partyman" up to eleven, I would urge you all to take the following news with a grain of salt. For what it's worth, the Revenge of the Fans article oozes confidence with regard to their scoop, though until we hear something official from Warner Bros., I would keep your shouts of "whoo hoo" inside the Batcave.

One of the things that makes Hammer's potential casting interesting is that the MIRROR MIRROR actor was set to play the Dark Knight almost a decade ago, when MAD MAX: FURY ROAD's George Miller was poised to helm a Justice League feature for the WB titled JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL. Had the film come to fruition, Hammer would have starred as the Caped Crusder in the project, alongside D.J. Cotrona and Adam Brody. In fact, the movie was set to roll cameras in Austrailia, that is until the 07-08 Writers Guild of America strike hit the industry like a well-landed Bat-punch to the gut.
If Hammer does indeed don the cape and cowl, he'll be taking over for Batman actor Ben Affleck, who just recently announced (officially) that he'll be retiring from the role.
Fun Fact: Our own Kevin Fraser suggested Armie Hammer for the role of Bats nearly two weeks ago, by way of his Cast This: The Batman article. Now, I'm not saying that Kevin is responsible for Hammer's potential casting ... or am I?
What do you think about the potential of Hammer suiting up as Bruce Wayne and Batman? Let us know in the comments section below.

Zack Snyder believes Ben Affleck is the ‘Best Batman ever’

Director Zack Snyder was instrumental in developing the DC Extended Universe, and he brought on board Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Henry Cavill as Superman. Of course, we can’t forget about Ben Affleck, who appeared as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Snyder hasn’t forgotten as well since he made a farewell post to the actor while also saying he’s the best Batman ever.
“There was a time above… a time before… there were perfect things… diamond absolutes. But things fall… things on earth. And what falls… is fallen. In the dream, it took me to the light. A beautiful lie… Best Batman ever. Thank you, my friend, for blessing me with that ****ing glorious chin and an amazing heart,” Snyder said via his Vero account. The post also featured an image of Affleck as Batman in his brown trench coat from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
This comes after speculation about whether or not Ben Affleck would be returning as the Caped Crusader. The actor tweeted an article from Deadline that said that he was passing the torch. In addition to portraying the Dark Knight, Affleck was also set to direct and write the upcoming standalone Batman movie, but that role ultimately was given to director Matt Reeves. The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and revealed that he couldn’t come up with a satisfactory script, and ended the interview by saying that he’s not Batman. Even before Reeves took over, there were reports about Affleck wanting out.
There have been a few rumors of who’s going to play Batman in the upcoming film including Armie Hammer. However, the actor revealed to Yahoo that Warner Bros. hasn’t contacted him about.
